Pot Marigold (Calendula officinalis) (also known as garden marigold, common marigold, English marigold or Scotch marigold) is a plant of the genus Calendula in the family Asteraceae.

It is possibly native to southern Europe, although its long history of cultivation makes its exact origin unknown.

The parts of the plant we use are its flowers, which when dried become light, brittle, odorless and slightly bitter in taste.

Calendula is edible. It is often used to add color to salads or as a garnish on dishes, and to make tea.

Calendula is rich in antioxidants, flavonoids and vitamin C.

It contains saponins, carotenoids, carotenes, sterols, resins, triterpenes, essential oil and lubricants.

Preparing tea: Put 1-2 tablespoons of flowers in a cup of boiling water and let steep for 10-15 minutes. Strain and drink up to 3 times a day.
