Mullein is also known by names such as flomos, kalanthropos, melissandro, glossa, splonos, St. John's candle, agatharos, alisfakia, alepoukia. It's a species native to Europe, North Africa and Asia, and was introduced to America and Australia. It self-propagates and grows in barren soils, embankments, dry meadows, ruins, among rocks and along the edges of country roads.

Mullein was a herb known since antiquity for its health benefits.

Ancient Greeks used the plant's root for respiratory problems, diarrhea, cramps, eye inflammation, and as a general remedy.

They also steeped the plant's flowers in olive oil for a few days and used the oil against ear infections in the form of ear drops.

For their therapeutic properties, the dried flowers and leaves of the main plant, as well as the root, are used.

It acts as an expectorant, emollient, mild diuretic, mild sedative and healing agent. The flowers are beneficial for the respiratory system.

They stimulate the mucous membranes of the respiratory system, reducing inflammation and stimulating fluid production, thereby easing expectoration.

Preparing tea: Put one to two teaspoons of dried leaves in a cup of boiling water and let steep covered for 10 to 15 minutes. Drink three times a day.
